12 Days of Christmas

For the last 25 years, The Butchart Gardens in Victoria (Brentwood Bay, actually) has illuminated its world famous gardens with Christmas lights for the month of December. I go almost every year I am home, and this year I enjoyed a stroll through the gardens and dinner with Brigitte (my sister in-law) and my lovely neighbour, Ellen. Read more

In Malaucène (where I have a home), there is a surprising art gallery, La Galerie Martagon, which for the last 20 years has curated, nurtured, and defended contemporary and actual art in a rural milieu. Weekend in Seattle

This past weekend, I met my sister-in-law in Seattle. Her Frankfurt flight arrived minutes after my little commuter flight from Vancouver Island — we met in the Customs line up! I have some must-visit spots when in Seattle: Pike Street Public Market, SAM Museum, dinner at Wild Ginger. Check, check, and check! We did them all and added an early Friday evening dinner at The Walrus and The Carpenter Oyster Bar (named after an 1872 Lewis Carroll poem). Bon Appétit magazine named it one of America’s “best new restaurants” for 2011. Read more
