About a year ago, I was in Torino, Italy (alas…without a camera), where I spent hours in Eataly heaven. Eataly is a high-end Italian food market with amazing restaurants and some of the best Italian food from the best Italian producers. On my recent trip to New York, you can imagine how excited I was to discover an Eataly had recently opened in Manhattan by famous Chef Mario Batali and his business partners! After a week of cycling, eating for energy, and a sneak peek at gourmet kitchen trends at the New York International Gift Fair, I was ready for a little refinement. The concierge at my hotel suggested L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon. Although I don’t often choose French restaurants outside of France, I’ve been dying to try L’Atelier, and the helpful concierge was all the impetus I needed to make a reservation. Read more

Home again! I’ve just returned to the West Coast from a whirlwind tour of points east. After cycling some 1,000 km through Southern Ontario with my brothers and then attending a fabulous Product Launch in Laval, Quebec, I headed for the New York International Gift Fair. While attending the New York Home Show recently, I had to try one of the city’s most talked-about restaurants: Prune. Epicure’s Chef Cheryl recommended it, having just read Blood, Bones & Butter by owner Chef Gabrielle Hamilton, currently making the rounds in foodie circles. Prune opened in the East Village over a decade ago, and it still serves delicious, unpretentious food with great service – along with an amusing anecdote to share with you. Read more
